Looking Back on 2017 – What an amazing year!

2017 has been a fantastic year! Makeup by Keria served 21 bridal parties, several boudoir clients that I have lost count of, and a few more headshot, prom, and event clients. Makeup by Keria had the opportunity to travel to Chicago than all the way to the tip of Northern Michigan and even the in-between to provided on location wedding day makeup services for all my fabulous brides. I’m grateful for all the brides and photographers I have met along the way how have shared their images with me. These photos help me show my work to the following year’s brides to be!

The beginning of 2017 was full of boudoir, bridal trials, and a February bride. I’m grateful to have such fantastic photographer friends who have allowed me to share studio space with them over the years so I can provide trials. I also assisted my wedding photographer husband at his first bridal show! I was given the 2017 WeddingWire Couple’s Choice Award!

Spring of 2017 continued with more bridal trials, boudoir, and the full start to the 2017 wedding season. I was able to attend the Women’s Expo as a vendor with one of the boudoir photographers I work closely. This was my first show attending as my own business! In May I celebrated my dirty thirty doing what I know best. I had a bridal party on my birthday in Chicago. From there my husband took me to the Adler Planetarium and took me for a birthday cupcake at Molly’s.

Summer of 2017 was full of more bridal trials, boudoir, models, and summer brides! I traveled to Southern Michigan, and Northern Indiana for these bridal parties and even fell in love with one of my favorite venues The Hidden Vineyard in Berrien Springs. July 9th my husband and I saw the Gorillaz in Chicago! In August my husband and I celebrated ten years of marriage on a vacation cruise. We drove to New Orleans and set sail the next morning!

Fall of 2017 was quite busy for me as the areas wedding season over the years has shifted to more fall weddings when the weather is neither hot or cold. I was able to provide makeup for an amazing wedding planner with Merry Me Events. On September 8th I left my Social Work job of five years to pre-Sue makeup artistry full time. It was at first a scary thought, but with all the love and support of my husband and clients, I leaped. I enjoyed a Highly Suspect concert Sept 22 in Grand Rapids, and I was able to travel to the Northern tip of Michigan for a fabulous bridal party that allowed my husband to take promo shots and video. From there my husband and I spent the weekend visiting the Headlands Dark Park and Mackinaw Island. In October I was asked to be part of a Wedding Day Magazine stylized shoot that was shot be Josephiney Photography, and I attended Wedding Day Magazine‘s bridal show at the end of October where I was able to provide model makeup for the fashion show. Towards the end of October, my hubby and I attended a remembrance for our friend who passed last year. It was beautiful but sad at the same time. Balloons were released in his honor. I had three Halloween makeup sessions this year, beautiful mermaids!! In November my bridal parties started to slow down, and I started filming for my YouTube channel again. There were two boudoir marathons, and I had my last wedding of the season on a rainy November day, but my bride looked stunning. November 12th I was part of another stylized bridal shoot with Alyssa Townsley Photography, and on November 16th I got my tattoo finished by Amber Olsen. November 19th I attended Callahan‘s tasting as a preferred vendor. Towards the end of November, I had Kimmie at Kalon Hair Lab dye my hair pink! This same month I developed my very own Wedding Beauty Guide with tips on planning your wedding beauty needs. December has been slow, but I have been able to enjoy family and friends more than I have been able to in the past few years. I’ve been using this month to focus on the next year to come, and I cannot wait. My first wedding of 2018 is tomorrow! Then I will be attending the Bridal Spectacular as a vendor and makeup artist for the fashion show. 2018 already has 16 bridal parties booked, and I cannot wait to see what this year has in store!
